If you’re receiving warnings about low disk space, follow these simple steps to free up space on your computer and keep it running smoothly.
Step 1: Delete Temporary Files
- Open the Disk Cleanup Tool:
- Press Windows Key + S, type Disk Cleanup, and select it.
- Select the drive you want to clean (usually C:).
- Check the boxes for Temporary files, Recycle Bin, and other non-essential items.
- Click OK to delete the selected files.
Step 2: Empty the Recycle Bin
- Right-click on the Recycle Bin icon on your desktop.
- Select Empty Recycle Bin and confirm.
- This will permanently delete files you no longer need.
Step 3: Move Large Files to External Storage
- Identify large files on your computer:
- Open File Explorer, right-click on a drive, and select Properties > Tools > Optimize.
- Move unnecessary large files to an external drive or cloud storage.
Step 4: Delete files from Downloads folder
- Identify unnecessary files on your Downloads folder:
- Open File Explorer, open downloads
- Delete files from download folder.
Step 5: Escalate to IT Support
If you’re still running low on disk space:
- Contact your IT support team.
- Provide details about:
- The current free space on your drive.
- Any large files or programs you’re unable to remove.
